Julius Caesar is remembered as one of the greatest military leaders in history. He expanded the Roman Empire through series of battles and was very popular all throughout Rome.
He struck a deal with two of Rome's higher up figures when he successfully campaigned for consulship, and the three of them became known as the first Triumvirate. Pompey the Great, Crassus, and Caesar controlled Rome until Crassus died and Caesar and Pompey went to war. Caesar wanted to take over Gaul because he saw it as a threat to Rome. Over time he did conquer Gaul and made it into a Roman Province, then he went to war with Pompey who allied with the Senate against Caesar. Pompey lost to Caesar every time, which made him want revenge even more. Cleopatra needed Caesar's help in Egypt to win back her throne. At first, Caesar was outnumbered but when reinforcements arrived, Cleopatra's brother was forced to flee from Egypt. Cleopatra was then given her thrown back and had a son who she named Ptolemy Caesar and he was supposedly Julius Caesar's son. Caesar was a very popular general in Rome, and because he was so popular he had a lot of enemies. Many people plotted against Caesar, so it wasn't a very big shock that he was killed. He thought he had a meeting with the Senate but when he got there, the Senate all rushed at him and stabbed him thirty-five times until he died. |
